On this page

The Browser panel is a full web browser inside kill9. Use it to inspect your running app, capture recordings of user interactions, and send visual context to agents.

Open it from the command palette (Cmd/Ctrl+K) by typing "Browser." It opens as a panel, not a workspace rail surface.

Modes

The browser has two modes:

  • Dev mode — the default. Navigates freely, inspector and recording are gated to your configured dev URL.
  • Embed mode — pinned to a specific URL, hides navigation controls. Used by Mockups to preview designs.

The toolbar has back, forward, refresh, and home buttons. The URL bar accepts any address. Press Enter to navigate. kill9 adds http:// automatically for localhost and local IPs, https:// for everything else.

Inspector

Click the inspector button to examine elements in your running app. Hover over elements to see their HTML, CSS, and computed styles. Click an element to select it.

When you select an element, a feedback dialog appears showing:

  • The element's tag and text
  • HTML snippet
  • Computed styles
  • Accessibility issues

Add a message and press Cmd/Ctrl+Enter to send the element's context to the agent you're chatting with. This is useful when you want an agent to fix a specific visual issue — select the broken element, describe what's wrong, and the agent gets the full DOM context.

The inspector is gated to your configured dev URL for security. If no dev URL is set, a config dialog appears where you enter your local server address (e.g., http://localhost:3000). kill9 checks that the server is reachable before enabling the inspector.

Multi-select is also supported. Select multiple elements and send them all to the agent at once.

Recording

Recordings capture a sequence of user interactions — clicks, scrolls, form inputs — as a replayable video.

Click the record button to start. Navigate through your app, demonstrate the feature or bug. Click stop when done. Recordings auto-stop at the maximum duration with a warning before the limit.

Each recording saves metadata: duration, URL, user agent, viewport size. Recordings appear in the recordings panel.

Recordings panel

Press Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+R to open the recordings panel. You see a list of saved recordings with their duration, file size, and when they were captured.

Select a recording to expand it into a player. The player replays the interaction using rrweb — you see exactly what happened, frame by frame.

From the recordings panel you can:

  • Play a recording
  • Delete a recording (with an undo toast in case you change your mind)
  • Send to Agent — attaches the recording to your current chat session with a message describing what to analyze

Sending a recording to an agent is powerful. Instead of describing a bug in words, you record the exact steps to reproduce it and send the recording. The agent sees the full interaction and can diagnose the issue from the visual and DOM context.

Dev server health

If you have a dev URL configured, kill9 monitors whether your dev server is running. If it crashes or becomes unreachable, kill9 shows a recovery toast and can restart the server using your configured start command.

Working alongside agents

The Browser panel shines when paired with Work (Mod+2). Keep the browser open next to your chat. The agent edits code, you refresh the browser to see the result, then continue the conversation. When you spot an issue, select the element and send it to the agent. When you need to demonstrate a bug, record it and attach the recording.
