Skills extend what agents can do. A skill is a package of knowledge, patterns, or workflows that an agent can draw on when working on a task.
What skills do
Without skills, agents rely on general training. With skills, they know your project's conventions, your team's patterns, and domain-specific knowledge.
Examples of what skills can add:
- Knowledge of your company's API conventions and error handling patterns
- A specific testing framework and its best practices
- A workflow for deploying to your infrastructure
- Domain knowledge like medical terminology or financial regulations
Finding skills
Open Settings → Skills and go to the Browse tab. Search for skills by name or category. You can also import a skill directly from a GitHub repository by pasting the URL.
Installing a skill
Click Install on a skill to make it available. Installed skills appear in the Installed tab and in the Tools surface (Mod+7) under the Skills tab.
Toggle a skill on or off. When on, agents working in relevant contexts will use it automatically. When off, it is ignored.
Creating a skill
If you have patterns or knowledge that your team uses repeatedly, create a skill. Open Tools (Mod+7), go to the Skills tab, and click Create. Write the skill definition — a description of what it covers, example prompts, and any constraints.
Save the skill. It appears in the list alongside built-in skills, and agents start using it immediately.
